Things to do in Kilkenny
Kilkenny is located in the sunny south east of Ireland. It is a Medieval city full of fantastic historical attractions for all the family to enjoy. Some of the top historical attractions in Kilkenny include; Kilkenny Castle and Gardens, Rothe House, Canice's Tower and Cathedral and the Medieval Mile Museum. However, as well as these fantastic historical buildings, Kilkenny has a lot more to offer. It has lot's of fun things for the children to enjoy including the Watershed pool and activity centre, the Kilkenny tourist train, a hurling game in Nowlan Park and a trip to the Watergate Theatre.
Kilkenny is also becoming a top attraction for its top class food and restaurants. There are many great places to enjoy a nice meal in Kilkenny varying from Italian eateries, french bistros, Irish pub grub and Michellin star restaurants.

1. Kilkenny Castle Park and Gardens

Location: Castle Road, The Parade, Kilkenny.
Description: Kilkenny Castle is located in the heart of Kilkenny City built in 1195. It was originally a wooden castle so is very different looking today. However, three of the four towers are the original towers from the 12th Century. The castle is surrounded by acres of park lands. There is a cafe and playground located on the grounds of the Castle also.

2. Jerpoint Abbey

Location: Thomastown, Co. Kilkenny
Description: Jerpoint Abbey is a fantastic Cistercian Abbey also founded in the 12th Century. It is reknowned for its unique stone carvings. It is located just outside the town of Thomastown in Co. Kilkenny. There is a visitor centre on site providing lots of information on the abbey ruins. There are also guided tours available.

3. Nore Valley Park

Location: Bennettsbridge, Co. Kilkenny
Description: Nore Valley Park is a family run visitor farm with camping facilities. There are regular tours of the farm including tractor tours, feeding and petting the animals. Nore Valley Park is a relaxing and fun place for all the family to enjoy. The children will be kept busy exploring the farm, playing in the playground, playing crazy golf, riding go Karts and enjoying a games room. It is a tranquil location not far from Kilkenny City where you can enjoy some time in the country air.ast

Delicious Food and Drink
Kilkenny has some great places to eat. Some of the top restaurants include Butcher, Rive Gauche, Zuni, Rinuccini's and La Rivista. Langtons also has a great menu with lot's of choice for kids. McDonalds is just outside the city for those who love their Big Macs!


Where to Stay
You will be spoiled for choice with the great accommodation available in Kilkenny City and County. If you wish to stay more central, Langtons Hotel, the Hibernian Hotel and the Rivercourt Hotel are all a walk away from shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. Outside the city Mount Juliet provides luxurious accommodation with a pool and award winning golf course on site.
